Homeschooling Supply Idea List - Grade 2

Let's face it, homeschooling a child can be a rather intimidating task, especially if it is something new to you and your child.

Here are some ideas for things you may want to have on hand to make the transition to homeschooling a bit easier for you as well as making learning fun for your child.

Let's start off with the basics.  In addition to the usual supply of pencils, pens, markers, crayons and age-appropriate paper, here are a few more ideas of things you may want to have on hand.

Get Organized

In this age of phonetic texting where the correct spelling of words is almost non-existent, it is very important for your child to have strong spelling skills.

If a child becomes a strong reader, there will be no limit to the things that the child will be able to learn!  

Getting a child to love to read is the first step.  Reading shouldn't feel like a chore.  Choose books, magazines or internet sites for the child to read that coincide with his or her interests.

Here are some examples.

Everything in life involves numbers of some sort.  Strong basic math skills will help your child feel comfortable in the areas of critical thinking and problem-solving.

Science is fun when you couple learning the basics of science along with some fun science experiments.

Learning about geography can give children a basic understanding of their community, their country and beyond which will give them a sense of where they fit in in the world.

Incorporate some playtime in the homeschool day for stress relief and just plain fun.  Here are some ideas.

During the school day, then a child is getting tired, loses interest or seems to be at the end of his/her attention span, having some fun games to lighten up the mood with fun and smiles may give them, and you, a second wind.

You can also use these ideas to recognize their efforts and achievements. 

So I hope I have given you some ideas to get you started on your homeschooling journey.
